Zaharah Salukis was established in 1975 with the acquisition of a young saluki male, Ch Kahirah Chancellor Zaharah, FCh, LCM III, TT and a bitch from Omen Salukis, Omens Daphne of Zaharah. Chancellor earned his AKC conformation title undefeated in the classes and was a Top Ten (Conformation.) He quickly earned his ASFA Field Championship, then three Lure Coursers of Merit in one year. During his coursing career, he won ten Best in Fields and was a Top Ten dog every year he ran. Chancellor's daughter, Ch Zaharah Nemisis ad Treybeau, FCh, LCM, TT, was a Top Producer. From only two small litters, 13 of Chancellor's children and grand children earned titles: 6 AKC champions, 7 ASFA Field Championships, 2 LCMs and one TT. The bloodlines behind Chancellor and his children are from top English kennels and old Srinagar stock. His grandson, who has produced the third generation from this bloodline, is 3/4 English and 1/4 old Srinagar.

"Chancellor -- my first saluki who achieved every goal I gave him, including
3 LCMs in one year. My best friend, my first AKC group placing champion, my
first BIF field champion and sire of my first homebred champion."

"Pictured [here] is my first home bred champion, Nemisis. She finished
easily with a 5 point major over 29 bitches under the respected hound judge
Bo Bengstrom. Earlier that year she was 2nd in a large bred-by class at the
National Specialty. She was a best in field LCM who was in the top 10 with
her sire Chancellor." (Click the photo to view Nemmie's page) |
In 1979, Zaharah acquired another male, Ch Sahava Suditi ad Zaharah, FCh, grandson of the legendary Ch Jen Araby Jurwadi Bey, son of BISS winner Ch Shams Il J'Balie. Suditi was from a litter that would become famous for producing many champions, Specialty winners, and BIS winners, both in America and in Europe. Suditi was an AKC Top Ten saluki during his show career, was an ASFA Field Champion, and won the Stud Dog class at the Saluki National Specialty in 1985. He was bred to carefully selected bitches, two from top English bloodlines. 35 of his children and grand children have earned titles: 26 AKC champions, 5 ASFA Field Champions, 2 Lure Coursers of Merit, 1 Companion Dog, 2 Agility titles, and 11 Junior Coursers. At the 1994 Saluki National Specialty, his grandson, Omens Prophecy, won Reserve Winners Dog over 125 dogs. His son, Ch Zaharah Braemoor Shamir, FCh, won an Award of Merit at the National Specialty. Suditi was famous for his beauty and elegance and put his stamp on his children.

"Multiple group winning, group placing, dual champion who was in the top 5
in the country the entire time he was being shown, Suditi produced 20 AKC
champion offspring in 5 small litters, with 5 more being close to finishing.
Most of these champions are also titled in the field. Suditi was a very
special dog from a very special litter but most of all, he was my soul mate."

Zaharah has taken pride in the breeding of dual purpose salukis. Through careful blending of top English bloodlines (Burydown and Daxlore), Zaharah has produced salukis with both elegance and soundness. According to Sighthound Review, Zaharah has produced more dual purpose salukis than any other saluki kennel.
